IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame

On November 19, 2006, the inaugural class of honorees was inducted into the IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame has been established to celebrate the accomplishments of IPFW student-athletes, coaches, teams and supporters who have enhanced and reinforced the college's commitment to excellence.

Arnie Ball-Men's Volleyball Coach
The legendary Arnie Ball has been head men's volleyball coach at IPFW for 26 seasons. Coach Ball is the 4th All-Time Winningest Coach in NCAA Men's Volleyball history. As of the 2006 season, Coach Ball has amassed 433 wins. He has taken five teams to the NCAA Final Four. Coach Ball has twice been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Coach of the Year. His men's volleyball program has produced numerous NCAA All-Americas, All-Conference selections and Olympians.

Lloy Ball '05-Men's Volleyball
Lloy Ball is simply the most decorated athlete in IPFW history. Ball is a three-time U.S. Olympian and former captain of the United State Olympic Volleyball team. As a setter, few could compare. He was a four-time NCAA All-America, he led his team to three NCAA Final Four appearances, and was twice named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Player-of-the-Year. He holds the IPFW record for career Assists (6,526) and Service Aces (167). He also holds the IPFW single match record for solo blocks (9) and assists in a season (2,047). Ball is currently playing professional volleyball in Russia.

Kenneth J. & Linda S. Balthaser-Supporter Not all inductees to the IPFW Hall-of-Fame made their mark in the field or on the court. Ken and Linda Balthaser have been recognized for their long-time support of the program. The department of athletics recognized the Balthasers in 1988 and 1998 with the department's fan appreciation award. They were also give the "Butch" Perchan Award in 1998. Ken is the IPFW Associate Librarian Emeritus, while Linda is the IPFW School of Arts and Sciences Assistant Dean Emerita. They have combined to give IPFW 77 years of outstanding service.

Laura Douglas '02-Women's Volleyball
Laura Douglas was a standout in women's volleyball from 1997-2000. She was named to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) All-Conference team in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Douglas was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region team in 1998 and the GLVC Player of the Year in 2000. She holds the IPFW school record for single match kills (36). She also holds the IPFW record for digs in a season (505) and digs in a career (1,625). A standout in the classroom as well, Douglas was named by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as an Academic All-America and to the GLVC All-Academic team in 1999 and 2000. Douglas is the current head volleyball coach at Indiana Tech.

Lindy (Jones) Fuelling '96-Women's Basketball
Lindy (Jones) Fuelling could flat-out fill it up. The Mastodons senior captain, in the 1995-96 season, led the NCAA in scoring at 26 points a game. She helped lead the 'Dons to a 23-5 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Fuelling has left her mark on the IPFW record books. She holds the IPFW record for points in a single game (43), the record for field goals in a single game (18), the single season record for steals (71), and is second all-time in scoring with 2,107 points. She was also named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year in 1995-96. Fuelling, who was a '96 Kodak All-America Honorable Mention, is currently the girl's freshman basketball coach at Belmont.

Loren Gebert '86-Men's Volleyball
Loren "LJ" Gebert was a four-year letter winner and two year captain for the IPFW men's volleyball team. Gebert was an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention in 1985. He was named to the AVCA All-America 3rd Team in 1986. These are special honors because Gebert was the first Mastodon to be recognized by the AVCA. He was an All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) in 1984, 1985, and 1986. After graduation, Gebert played professionally in Italy for two years. He continues to be involved in the sport as a player and referee.

Sean Gibson '93-Men's Basketball
Sean Gibson left IPFW as the school's men's basketball All-Time Leading Scorer (1,765). The four-year letter winner and two year captain is also the leading rebounder in IPFW history (965). Gibson helped lead IPFW to its first Great Lakes Valley Conference men's basketball championship and birth to the NCAA Tournament (1992-93). He was named GLVC Player of the Year in 1992-93. He was named All-GLVC 1st Team in 1991-92 and 1992-93. He was also named 2nd Team All-GLVC in 1990-91. Gibson holds school records for career free throws made (557), season free throws made (208), rebounds in a season (279), and is third in career block shots (105). After graduating from IPFW, Gibson played professional basketball for five seasons, three in Spain, one in Iceland, and one in Chile/Dominican Republic.

Mike Harper '96-Men's Soccer
Mike Harper is IPFW's All-Time Leading Scorer in men's soccer. Harper registered 72 goals and 36 assists in his four-year career. In his senior season, Harper was named by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as an Honorable Mention All-America. He was a four-time Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) All-Conference selection. He was also a four-time NCAA All-East Regional selection. After graduating from IPFW, Harper played professionally for the Baton Rouge Bombers of the Eastern Indoor Soccer League (EISL). Harper is currently the head men's soccer coach at IPFW.

Tami (Isch) Henry '02-Women's Volleyball
Tami (Isch) Henry was a four-year letter winner for the IPFW women's volleyball team. Henry is the IPFW All-Time record holder for Assists in a career (5,658). In 2000, Henry was named to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) All-Conference 1st Team. That same year she was named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) to the All-Region Team. It was her second All-Region Selection (1999). She was a three-time All-GLVC Selection. Henry also holds school records for Assists in a single season (1,659) and assists in a single match (84). She is also the proud mother of triplets!

Lawrence Jordan '90-Men's Basketball
Lawrence Jordan was a four-year letterwinner and starter for the IPFW men's basketball team. Jordan holds the IPFW All-Time Record for Assists in a career (913). He is also the record holder in career steals (324). Jordan set the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) record for assists in a season in 1989-90. His mark of 182 still stands today. In 1990, Jordan was named to the All-GLVC First Team. That same season, he was tabbed by Don Hansen's Basketball Gazette as a Top-20 All-America. Jordan is also listed in a number of other IPFW All-Time categories. He is 8th All-Time in Scoring (977), 7th in Field Goals (368), and 8th in Free Throws (190).

Lawrence A. Lee-Supporter
Larry Lee has been a force in the advancement of IPFW Athletics. Lee served as a member of the original Hilliard Gates Scholarship Committee. He was also a charter member and President of the Royal Dons Club. He has been recognized by the university as being the largest individual supporter of the Athletic Program. Lee created the Lloy Ball Scholarship Fund for Men's Volleyball. He led the drive for IPFW to transition to Division I. Lee is the owner/president of Leepoxy Plastics, Inc.

Clara (Schortgen) Meyer '84-Women's Volleyball
Clara (Schortgen) Meyer was a four-year letterwinner for the IPFW women's volleyball team. Meyer was the Co-Captain of the 1984 team that won the school's first ever Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) women's volleyball championship. Meyer was named All-Conference in that 1984 season. She was also a co-captain for the Mastodons in 1982 and 1983. Meyer was an All-America nomination her senior season. She served as an assistant coach at IPFW, for then head coach Arnie Ball, from 1985-1987.

Lisa (Miller) McBride '92-Women's Basketball
When Lisa (Miller) McBride left IPFW after the 1992 season, she departed as the school's All-Time Leading Scorer (2,358). McBride also holds the IPFW record for Rebounding (937). In her senior season, she was named a Kodak Division II All-America. She also grabbed the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Player of the Year award. McBride still holds the GLVC record for Free Throws in a season (160). A four-time All-GLVC selection, McBride was also a three-time GLVC All-Academic honoree. She was selected by the NCAA to receive the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship, and her #24 jersey has been retired. She was the girl's basketball coach at Carroll High School for 11 seasons.

Mike Mungovan '80-Baseball
Mike Mungovan was a four-year letter winner for the IPFW Baseball Team. Recognized as one of the cornerstones of the IPFW program, there were few who could swing the bat like him. Mungovan holds the IPFW record for All-Time Leader in Batting Average (.404) He also holds the IPFW record for batting average in a season. In 1979, Mungovan tortured opposing pitchers while hitting a nasty .466. He is 4th All-Time in Home Runs (17) and tied for 2nd All-Time in Triples (7).

Rhonda (Unverferth) Osterhage '86-Women's Basketball
Rhonda (Unverferth) Osterhage only played basketball at IPFW for three years, but she made an indelible mark. She was named a Kodak Division II All-America in 1985. Osterhage was also named the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Player of the Year in the 1983-84 and 1984-85 seasons. She is currently 6th on the All-Time Scoring List (1,293), 2nd in Field Goal Percentage (.531), 4th in Field Throws (243), and 6th in Rebounding (570). Quite an accomplishment for just a three year career.

Raul Papaleo '93-Men's Volleyball
Raul Papaleo was a four-year letterwinner for the IPFW men's volleyball team. Papaleo was a Two-Time NCAA/ACVA All-America, grabbing honors in 1992 and 1993. Papaleo's teams won two Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) titles ('91/'92). He was named the MIVA Player of the Year in 1992. In 2003, Papaleo won a Bronze Medal at the Pan-American Games. He was also a member of the Puerto Rico Olympic Team in 2004, competing in Beach Volleyball.

Bronn Pfeiffer '87-Men's Soccer
Bronn Pfeiffer was a four-year letterwinner for the IPFW men's soccer program. Pfeiffer was an All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection in 1984-85-86, and 1987. Pfeiffer was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as an All-Midwest Region Selection in those same seasons. "Ironman" Pfeiffer started every game in his Mastodon career. After graduation, Pfeiffer played professionally for nine seasons. Pfeiffer played for the Fort Wayne Flames, Indiana Kicks, Chicago Power, and Detroit Rockers in the National Professional Soccer League.

David "Doc" Skelton-Administrator
David Skelton has been a part of the IPFW Athletic Department since its inception. "Doc" coached men's basketball from 1966-70. He was a faculty member of the faculty senate athletic advisory committee from 1970-79. He coached the first softball team in 1975. "Doc" returned to basketball, coaching the women's team from 1977-79. In 1979, Skelton was named Director of Athletics, a position he held until 1987. During his tenure, IPFW joined NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Valley Conference. He has served as Compliance Officer, Fundraiser, and Academic Advisor.

Hector Soto '00-Men's Volleyball
For four years, Hector Soto wrecked havoc on the opposition in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Conference (MIVA). A four-time All-Conference First-Team selection, Soto was named an NCAA/AVCA 1st Team All-America in the 1999 and 2000 seasons. He was named an NCAA/AVCA 2nd Team All-America in 1998. Soto helped the 1999 team to a MIVA Championship and a birth in the NCAA Final Four. He is IPFW's All-Time Leader in Kills (2,193), Kills in a Season (705), and Kills in a Match (51).
