Summit League Indoor Championships Results
Sterling, IL-The seventh seeded IPFW Women's Track and Field team placed sixth at their first ever Summit Leage Indoor Championships over the weekend with 29 points. Fellow newcomer to the Summit League, North Dakota State, took home the championship. Leading IPFW was All-League honoree Crystal Martinez with 13 points. Crystal finished a team-high second place in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:27.24; her time was a personal best, and a new IPFW record. She scored in the 3,000m run as well, finishing fourth at 10:08.00. Also scoring individually for IPFW were Crystina Martinez in the 3,000m and the 5,000m and Brooke Newman in the pole vault. Both the DMR and 4x400 relay teams were able to add to the IPFW scoring effort, finishing fifth and eighth respectively. Coach Fruchey was encouraged by team's effort stating, "It was a great meet for our student-athletes! We were focused on beating the two teams that we were capable of beating and it is a good benchmark for us to start at. Hopefully, with this experience, we can keep building towards the top of the conference." IPFW will open up the outdoor season on March 22 at the Early Bird Relays in Cincinnati, OH.
