Elmhurst, IL-IPFW standout Crystina Martinez earned all-academic cross country honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Martinez was one of just two Summit League runners to be individually awarded by the USTFCCA. Sharla Platt of Southern Utah also earned individual honors. Both women were named to the All-Summit League team after finishing in the top ten of the Summit League Championships in the fall. In order to be considered for academic honors, runners had to have a GPA upwards of 3.25 after 24 credit hours, and must have finished in the top 15/top 10 percent of finishers in their regional meet. The IPFW Men's Cross Country team was awarded team academic honors by the USTFCCCA after achieving a 3.17 team GPA. Other teams in the Summit League that were honored include IUPUI and Southern Utah on the men's side, and IUPUI, Oakland, South Dakota, and Southern Utah on the women's side. Teams had to have an overall GPA of 3.0 and had to compete at an NCAA Regional Meet to be eligible for consideration.
