Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Signs Five



IPFW Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Coach Mike Fruchey introduces '08 signees.

Fort Wayne, IN-Coach Mike Fruchey has signed five student-athletes that will join IPFW's women's cross country and track and field teams in the fall of 2008.  The recruiting class includes four distance runners and one sprinter/jumper.  "Overall, this was an outstanding recruiting class.  There is an aura of excitement around our program, primarily due to the Summit League Cross Country Championship that we captured in the fall and also our new indoor track facility that will break ground in September 2008.   These recruits will be huge contributors to our future success."

 

Sarah Hutchings - Distance (Penn High School, IN)

Personal Bests: 5,000 meters - 19:17; 4,000 meters - 15:08; 1600 meters - 5:25.1; 4x800 meters - 9:28.67

Honors: Sarah advanced to the Indiana State Cross Country Meet as both a junior and senior.  She was 7th at the 2007 IHSAA New Haven Cross Country Semi-State.  Sarah has achieved All-State honors in track, was named 1st Team for the Northern Indiana Conference in both cross country and track.

Intended course of study: Pre-med, Chemistry

Coach Fruchey's Comments: "Sarah is a fantastic addition to our program.  She brings a unique combination of endurance and leg speed to our team.  Also, Sarah has great leadership qualities and was a captain of her Penn High School teams."

Whitney Lane - Sprints and Jumps (Bowling Green High School, OH)

Personal Bests: 400 meters - 61.9 seconds; 200 meters - 27.2 seconds; Long Jump - 15' 11½"; Triple Jump - 33'
Honors: Whitney achieved 2nd Team All-League and was also a letter winner during all three years she participated in track and field.  In addition, Whitney is valedictorian of her class.

Intended course of study: Pre-med, Biology 

Coach Fruchey's Comments: Whitney is a phenomenal all-around athlete.  I think that she will bring a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and strength to our track and field team.  Whitney can really do many events well and I foresee her as a multi athlete.  I am really looking forward to her addition to the team."

Nicole Parry - Distance (Kokomo High School, IN)

Personal Bests: 5,000 meters - 19:50; 4,000 meters - 15:46; 3200 meters - 12:20; 1600 meters - 5:42


 

 

 

Honors: Nicole was the 2007 IHSAA Logansport Sectional Champion in cross country and advanced to the New Prairie Semistate.  She was also NCC All-Conference in cross country in 2005, 2006, and 2007.  Nicole won the Mental Attitude Award during her Junior year of cross country and was the MVP for cross country in both her Freshman and Senior year.

Intended course of study: Secondary education

Coach Fruchey's Comments: "Nicki is a developing runner who is just beginning to find her potential.  I am really glad that she decided to come to IPFW and help our team.   I believe that once she is surrounded by other very good runners on a daily basis that she will discover her true ability level.

She is a very motivated individual with an outstanding high school grade point average of 3.89."

Rachel Schultz - Distance (Hersher High School, IL)

Personal Bests: 3 Mile - 18:29; 3200 meters - 11:54

Honors: Rachel has advanced to the IHSA State Cross Country Meet all four years of high school and to the IHSA State Track Meet (2-Mile) in her first three years of high school.  She has been All-Conference in both cross country and track in every season of competition.  Rachel is also valedictorian of her class.

Intended course of study: Nursing

Coach Fruchey's Comments: "Rachel is a special student-athlete.  She exemplifies personal excellence in everything she does.  It is rare to recruit a person who has not only ran in every state meet that was possible for her to run in, but also achieved the top ranking in her class.  I was so impressed with her and I am happy that she valued the opportunity that IPFW could give her to continue to develop academically and athletically."

Kayla Sweet - Distance (Norwell High School, IN)

Personal Bests: 5,000 meters - 18:47; 4,000 meters - 15:18; 3200 meters - 11:53; 1600 meters - 5:25; 800 meters - 2:27

Honors: Kayla was the 2007 IHSAA Bellmont Sectional and Marion Regional Champion in cross country, and was runner-up at the 2007 IHSAA New Haven Cross Country Semi-State.  Kayla finished her high school cross country career with a 46th place finish at the Indiana State Meet.  She has been All-Northeast Hoosier Conference in Cross Country for the past three years.  In addition to running, Kayla has been a varsity member of the Norwell High School swim team for the past four years.

Intended course of study: Nursing

Coach Fruchey's Comments: "Kayla is a great competitor and I believe she has an awesome future as a front-runner.  I am really looking forward to coaching her and seeing her continue to develop.  I know when she visited and observed one of our tough workouts, she had a great desire to be out there and I think that really speaks to her love for running."
